Missions

We were sent out by Renfrew Baptist Church to Peru as missionaries in 1992. During our 17 years in Peru we worked in various ministries with SIM (Serving in Mission). Theological Education by Extension was what we originally went to be involved in, first in the southern city of Arequipa and then in the capital, Lima. After some years in that ministry we got involved in leadership and administration ministries. David was the Treasurer for the SIM fields of Peru, Ecuador and Chile, and then was the Area Director for those countries. Latterly he was the Peru Administrator and Bookkeeper. Helen worked in the Lima Guest House, then as Lima Team Coordinator, then Area Personnel Coordinator, and finally was the Peru Director for our final 5 years in Peru. Serving the mission team in and through these ministries was a privilege and a great joy for us. The 50 SIM missionaries in Peru work in Theological Education, Children's Ministries, and Church Planting and Strengthening, among others.

In July 2009 we returned to live in the UK. Helen is now working at the SIM UK office as the Deputy Mobilisation Director for one year, covering a maternity leave. She is now busy overseeing all the administrative functions of the mobilisation department, as well working with applicants and missionaries who come from the eastern area of England. She is also the SIM UK contact person for our partner missions in Germany. In Oct 2010, Helen will take up the post of International Personnel Director for SIM, although will still be based in the UK.
